They’ll get you. And you little dog, too.

Well, it’s that time of year again.  It’s a time when munchkins and dragqueens run wild.  This weekend is the Wizard of Oz Festival, formerly of Chesterton, Indiana.  (To see last year’s post, go here.)  It seems the festival has grown too big for Chesterton’s small downtown and this year it has been moved to the county fairgrounds.

Now, local businesses may not be happy. (Many have been blaming slow sales and failing businesses on the relocation.  Don’t believe it.  A)  Have you seen gas prices?  B)  The festival hadn’t even HAPPENED yet.)

Even though local businesses may not like it, The town’s residents have a different opinion.  In fact, I have yet to meet any past or present resident who is not happy to see it go.  You see there are a ridiculous amount of people who flood the festival every year, snapping up parking, clogging up the street, tearing up yards, and leaving trash in their wake.

Even as I sit here and think of the festival in disdain, I will most likely be going.  My Grandmother and two of my Aunts are visiting this weekend.  Plus it’ll be interesting to see how the festival comes across while being hosted at the expo center.

While I, like every former/present of Chesterton, am not unhappy to know of all the people that will no longer be clogging up our little portion of the world… It was kind of fun to see the dragqueens flutter about our way too conservative Broadway. : )
But that could just be me…
