So this post is to jump start me back into the blog. I’m having trouble with it.

Unless you WANT to read about me drinking coffee and longing to crawl back into bed.

Yeah, I didn’t think so. So, I’ll work on that and hopefully, I’ll have something written soon.

Kick It!

In two months I will officially have lived in Iowa for 12 years. In those 12 years I have gained probably around 45 pounds (insert Iowa corn-fed jokes here). I’ll be honest, when I moved out here, mostly due to some health issues just prior to moving, I was very light (read: NOT healthy in the slightest, down right sickly in fact). As I’ve aged I’ve become much more sedentary – I blame being a grown-up and I think we should all revolt!

Anyway the forces of the universe have finally gotten through to me and I realize that health, weight, and that whole shebang is like politics… you can’t bitch unless you at least attempt to do something about it (exercise or vote).

Right around the time I was having this little personal revelation a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to take a kickboxing class with her…. What the hell… It’s 4 nights a week for 6 weeks. I can handle anything for 6 weeks (except a Siberian prison, as my kickboxing partner, Marta, likes to point out).

So remember when I said I wasn’t healthy? Extreme lack of exercise was a big part of that. And by lack I mean my couch and I were nearly as good of friends as Erin and I. Oh yeah, my yen for the Whopper combo certainly didn’t help things either.

I’m not trying to go all hog wild and realize that 6 weeks doesn’t make up for decades of mistreating my body (my “temple”, so some say) but I am trying to be more aware of what I’m putting into my body. Which means I broke up with McDonalds – the longest relationship I’ve ever had. This way when the class is over I’ll hopefully have the best possible idea of whether or not it was worth it.

Because right now I’m not 100% sure – not totally discouraged though because my ass (and the rest of me) is still showing up everyday. Showing up to get the snot beat out of it no less.

But, hey, the first day I might have made it through 3 push ups before faceplanting on the floor… Yesterday I did 20 in one fell swoop, another 20 in other round, and a final 13 the last time around. Granted they are “girl” pushups but my knees aren’t as slippery as my feet and the important thing is I was doing them… and doing them without my ass in the air.

“Please don’t ask me if I’m ‘Sweatin for the Weddin’” because if you do, trust, I will not be responsible for my actions

Right now I should be cleaning the house and prepping my part of our dinner/get-together tonight. I really should.

But I’ve been distracted.

So I’m really trying to declutter here at Casa de Vaughan, but it is slow going. I have a closet that I figured was a good place to start, & I have been finding all sorts of things.

I found this envelope of letters and pictures my baby sister sent me when she was little. She’s now in her senior year at Butler University. All of this came from back when she thought I was cool.

Also, about a year ago I decided I was going to make us some reusable lunch gear that I never really finished. I found about 3 of these.

What is it? It’s a water resistant sandwich wrapper. See.

I have a great big box of unfinished projects or things I need to mend.

Then there is also the ” Christmas Bank”. The box I keep Christmas gifts in until I can wrap them up. I have recently finished a few knitting and crochet projects, intended for the “Christmas Bank” but I either do not remember who the intended recipient was, or I have decided to go with something else.

I’ll have to make a decision soon about what to do with them.

Last weekend, Nate arranged for us to have a date night. It was wonderful. He took me to a local production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, and out to eat. We had a wonderful time.

This week were are due in Missouri for my Grandmother’s 89th birthday, and to see the family. We’re looking forward to it.

Show and Tell

Nate’s 72% of a Dr. Who Scarf. Once he checked the length, he requested I stop.
Yarn: naturspun sport
Pattern: here
Comments: easy enough, just a much bigger project then one would think

Improvised crocheted cowl.
No pattern. Odd ball yarns

Crocheted scarf.
Moochi plus and Malabrigo

The bridal shawl pattern has been chosen.
Yarn: “The Silver Lining” from Oink Pigments
Pattern: a circular shawl with diamond edging from VICTORIAN LACE TODAY

Could the 10 stitch blanket be almost done? Well, it could be, if I would weave in ends and possibly put an edging on it. Instead we have a little embroidery. (Hello, my name is Erin, & I have “Crafter’s ADHD”.)
We won’t mention all the knit socks waiting for mates.
I officially packed up James’ diapers the other day. I’m not sure what I will do with them. Part if me is a little nervous about getting rid of them. We’ve decided that we are done, but sometimes things don’t go according to your plan.

Jess is up in Indy this week. Because of her confirmation schedule, I took her up Monday morning. Normally she goes up Sunday evening but due to Jess going through confirmation this year, her schedule is a bit mixed up. Sunday evening the calls started coming in on her phone as her friends arrived at the School for the blind and she had not arrived yet.
Monday morning Jess was full of nervous excitement. She loves going. Thankfully, she does not yet love it enough to want to go full- time. I’m not ready.

Things to come

So how did it become September already?

Got back to work on Nate’s Dr. Who scarf. The other day he was checking the length, he was pleased it was almost done.
“Almost done?! I’m just over the halfway point!”
Nate’s decided his scarf will be a shorter version.

Speaking of work, Nate fixed me 50 year old Pfaff 360 sewing machine. I am very pleased, but I cannot find to bobbins, so I had to order more. Only having one bobbin to work with has slowed me down considerably.

September also means its time to start figuring Christmas. I know, I know, but I have to be realistic on what I can get done in time, and what needs to be bought.

Speaking of purchases, I bought yarn yesterday for two very special projects due in May.

Color way: turquoise treasure
Purchased: treasuregoddess’s shop via etsy
Project: retro rib socks for the groom

Color way: the silver lining
Purchased: oinkpigment’s shop via etsy
Project: shawl yet to be determined for the bride
